About us

ecometric has, in just three years, developed, trialled and brought to market a new approach to measuring soil carbon. It responds to a proven demand from landowners, businesses and government to accelerate our response to climate change by recognising the role of soil as largest terrestrial carbon sink.

David founded ecometric in 2021 and having come from a farming family has a deep understanding of the land and the challenges facing the agricultural community that can only come from being a part of it. David served in the RAF as a fast jet pilot for 16 years and as a military aviator he learned about remote sensing technologies, on which so much of his RAF life depended. He went on to apply these techniques to remotely assess the farmed and natural world and on leaving the RAF founded Spectrum Aviation - working with ecometric's CTO Hywel Evans - supplying low-cost remote sensing and imagery analysis for farmers using military grade sensors mounted on very light aircraft. The information captured on crop canopies often indicated limiting factors within the underlying soil that couldn't be directly seen or measured.

ecometric was set up to develop methods to remotely evaluate these soil parameters. Soil organic carbon was quickly assessed as the most important performance indicator which created a link between agricultural productivity and climate change mitigation. The ambition took root, to deliver soil management solutions at a scale that would work to address climate change whilst improving farm productivity, our soils and the biodiversity on which our agricultural systems depend.

Hywel specialises in applying AI to real world problems. Utilising his two PhD's, he has developed for ecometric the proprietary AI system and neural networks that deliver the market leading SOC quantification accuracy.

Everything ecometric does is rooted in science and accuracy is paramount. David and Hywel are supported by a bright team of highly qualified Technical and Operational staff.

We are also supported by a highly experienced advisory board:

The experience and breadth of the advisory board has been vital to ecometric's success. Spanning Digital, Law, Finance and Communications.
