# Ecometric > Ecometric measures soil organic carbon, field by field, every year. Real soil samples, laboratory analysis and satellite imagery, resolved to the farmer's fields, and the results are owned by the farmer. Founded 2021. Stamford, Lincolnshire, UK. More than 300,000 hectares measured across more than 250 projects in 11 countries, over five annual monitoring cycles. ## What we do - Annual measurement of soil organic carbon (SOC) stock change against each farm's own baseline, with the accuracy stated. - Physical samples analysed by dry combustion in an ISO-accredited laboratory anchor every result; AI ties them to satellite imagery at 100 readings a hectare, a value every 10 metres. - Error is measured against samples the AI never saw and deducted in full. - One measurement, three tiers: 01 Measure (SOC monitoring) · 02 Report (IPCC Tier II emissions reporting to SBTi and GHG Protocol standard) · 03 Access (registry-accredited credit origination: one credit for each tonne sequestered after greenhouse gas emissions are deducted; insets or offsets, commission-free). - Invoicing is split into four payments, due on contract signature, data collection, soil sampling and lab analysis, and report delivery. - Fees are for the service, never a commission on carbon. Farmers own their data and take it with them if they leave. - Minimum project area 150 hectares. A written quote is sent within two working days from an SBI number and hectares. ## Evidence and governance - Methodology accredited by the Regen Registry after four rounds of independent scientific review, with its own credit class. - Published methodology on the Regen Registry: https://registry.regen.network/methodology/soil-organic-carbon-estimation-in-regenerative-cropping-managed-grassland-ecosystems - Ecometric credit class on the Regen Registry: https://www.registry.regen.network/crediting-protocols/ecometric---ghg-benefits-in-managed-crop-and-grassland-systems-credit-class - Paper: The Practical Considerations of Soil Health Measurement for Codex Planetarius (WWF, December 2025), by V. Rojas Moreno, G. Milner and H. F. J. Evans of Ecometric: https://codexplanetarius.org/pdfs/Codex%20Planetarius_Practical%20Considerations%20of%20Soil%20Health%20Measurement.pdf - Audited by Carbon Direct and Nova-Cert; verified to ISO 14065; rated in the global top 30% by BeZero Carbon. - Commissioned by WWF to write the soil health measurement paper for Codex Planetarius, published December 2025. - Nominated in 2024 for The Earthshot Prize and the Morgan Stanley Sustainable Solutions Collaborative; both are nomination-only, by invited networks that go looking for proven impact. - Observed across UK monitoring programmes: an emerging relationship between soil organic carbon stock change and yield stability. In one wet year on the same clay loam, a farm without regenerative practices lost 28 t/ha of SOC while a regenerative farm gained 7 t/ha. ## Key people - David Wright — Founder & CEO - Dr Hywel Evans — CTO ## Notable buyers and partners - Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team (carbon removal credits from the Blaston Farm project) - Regen Network (registry, peer review and immutable ledger) ## Sampling season - Soil carbon is sampled once a year at the same point in the year. The 2026 autumn-winter sampling window is open until the end of February 2027; missing it delays a baseline by a year. ## Guides (answers to common questions) - Soil carbon measurement for farms, the complete guide: https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-carbon-measurement-for-farms/ - How soil carbon is measured (samples, satellite, error stated): https://ecometric.co.uk/how-soil-carbon-is-measured/ - Accuracy stated, how the error is measured and deducted: https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-carbon-accuracy-stated/ - Why soil carbon is measured once a year, in the autumn-winter window: https://ecometric.co.uk/why-soil-carbon-is-measured-once-a-year/ - What 150 hectares means in practice (the minimum project area): https://ecometric.co.uk/what-150-hectares-means/ - Soil carbon testing cost per hectare in the UK, what sets the price (no published rate card): https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-carbon-testing-cost-per-hectare-uk/ - Soil organic carbon and yield, what five annual monitoring cycles show: https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-organic-carbon-and-yield/ - What soil organic carbon is, and why it matters on a farm: https://ecometric.co.uk/what-is-soil-organic-carbon/ - How to increase soil organic carbon (practices that build it): https://ecometric.co.uk/how-to-increase-soil-organic-carbon/ - Soil carbon baseline, what it is and what you receive: https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-carbon-baseline/ - Soil carbon credits for UK farmers, how they work and when they make sense: https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-carbon-credits-uk-farmers/ - Soil carbon testing in the UK, the methods compared: https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-carbon-testing-uk/ - Soil health testing in the UK, where soil carbon fits: https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-health-testing-uk/ - How much a farm can earn from soil carbon credits, what decides the number of credits and why prices are set by the market: https://ecometric.co.uk/how-much-can-farms-earn-from-soil-carbon-credits/ - Carbon schemes for farmers, 12 questions to ask before you sign: https://ecometric.co.uk/carbon-schemes-for-farmers-questions-to-ask/ - Soil sampling for soil carbon, how it is designed and taken: https://ecometric.co.uk/soil-sampling-for-soil-carbon/ - Farm carbon audit or soil carbon measurement, the difference and which the rules ask for: https://ecometric.co.uk/farm-carbon-audit-vs-soil-carbon-measurement/ - Does regenerative farming build soil carbon?
